Trippin'

But oh Lord we've got to fight
With the thoughts in the head with the dark and the light
No use to stop and stare
And if you don't know where you're going
Any road will take you there

Hose on your squash

My squash is so classy it wears pantyhose.

No, I don't have some kind of vegetable-dressing fetish. I actually read in some article somewhere (that was really great referencing, huh?) that you could use pantyhose to make a hammock of sorts for squash that was getting too heavy for the vine. Well I'll be damned if it doesn't work. And now my squash can feel feminine and attractive, just like it always wanted to.

Hello darkness, my old friend

When I was a teenager I would light candles and sit in my room and write depressing poems, which I thought was terribly unique and tragic of me. At some point I discovered that this was neither unique nor tragic, and magically not long after lost the desire to express my exaggerated and sometimes fabricated woes in the form of corny poetry.
Unfortunately for you, my corny poetry days are apparently not over. For whatever reason I have been inspired to write again, and am finally brave enough to post one of my moderately depressing works. Don't ask me why they have to be depressing - sometimes it's just fun to wallow, isn't it? Like pigs.
My soul is like a pig, wallowing in the muck of despair. See, I am totally poetic.

I used to write stories
I used to write tales
And now I’m all dried up
Like a whale
On land
I used to imagine
I used to create
And now my mind is just heavy
Like a weight
In sand
I used to be full of color
I used to be clever and cute
And now I only look that way
Like fruit
That’s bland
I used to love with passion
I used to passionately love
And now I’m mostly empty
Like a glove
Without hand
I used to
And now
Just bland.

Into the wild blue (or pink or purple) yonder

So I know that taking pictures of the sky is not entirely original. On the other hand, is anything entirely original? And besides, there is something that is ever fascinating about the sky. No matter how much we understand about it scientifically, there is something magical and otherworldly about an intense blue sky with mystical white clouds, or a soft purple sky filled with intense pink whisps.

To be totally fair, I didn't actually take this one, although I wish I had because I think it's pretty awesome. Instead, the photo credit goes to my awesome husband.

Von Trapp Children Couture

You'll probably be pleasantly surprised and delighted to know that not only am I super talented with a camera, but I'm also capable of creating clothing - out of sheets, no less!

My husband says I look like I'm wearing a sheet, which is very accurate of him because I am. I get the distinct feeling that he does not mean this as a compliment, but I choose to ignore this. I prefer to look at it as Von Trapp children couture and be proud of my skillz. Nothing like wearing an old sheet to make you feel like a star!

Snow many memories...

While we all suffer in the sauna that is this summer, I choose to think happy thoughts and reminisce about a time not so long ago when snow fell from the sky and ice covered the ground.

Finding beauty in the mundane

I find that if looked at just the right way, the mundane is often poetic. From a bunch of crummy shoes to a magazine on a coffee table to cats acting crazy, what seems simple and ordinary is interesting and even beautiful if you only stop to look.
Words in a friend's window remind me that "every day matters," and although I don't know if I always believe that, it's nice to know that someone does. The shoes and the magazine and the cats and the words might not matter, but they exist, and I choose to recognize them.
Maybe recognition is enough to make something or someone matter, and if that's true, then I've done at least one good deed today.

Cats are the most exquisite models

I am obsessed with cats. Observe:

Get used to these exquisite faces. If you pay attention to my blog (and you probably don't, but I can dream), then you'll be seeing them frequently. Cats really are the best models.
